Andre P. Bernier, 77, of Maynard Street, Putnam, died Monday, October 5, 2009 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester after a long illness. He was born January 2, 1932 in Danielson, son of the late Alfred and Angelina (Charest) Bernier. He made his home in Putnam all his life, a communicant of ST Mary Church of the Visitation. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the US Navy. He was employed for over twenty years at the American Optical as a computer operator and also worked at Putnam Hertzl. He was a life member of the Putnam VFW Post 1523, a member of The Foresters. He enjoyed going to greyhound and horse races. Andre's greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his three granddaughters. He leaves his son Michael Bernier and his wife Denise of Putnam, and three granddaughters: Amanda, Angela and Andrea with whom he had made his home with for the last five years, a brother; Joseph Paul Bernier and his wife Rose of Webster, sisters; Irene Reinstra of Westby, WI; Madeleine Zulkewicz and her husband Fred of Putnam, several close nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers; Francis Bernier; Rene Bernier; four sisters Agnes Wallen; Gertrude Chaput; Clair Paquin; Rita Chabot. The Funeral will be Friday, October 9, 2009 at 10:00 AM from the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street Putnam followed by a 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial at ST Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence Street, Putnam.
