Samuel R. Peckham passed away peacefully at his home on June 2, 2014 after a battle with cancer. He was born in Putnam, CT on June 6, 1939, the son of the late Adelbert V. and Bernice L. (Sheldon) Peckham. He served in the US Navy from 1958 – 1962 and was a Machinist Mate Second Class, assigned to the U.S.S. Maloy (DE-791), based out of New London, CT. He was an Operating Engineer for over 50 years (Local 478) and had a talent for operating all types of heavy equipment. He worked primarily on highway construction in CT, and during the mid 1970’s he spent a year in Saudi Arabia while working for the L.G. De Felice Construction Company. During the span of his career, he also worked for Arute Brothers, O & G, and Balf/Savin Construction Company from which he retired in 2001. He enjoyed spending time with his family, being outdoors, watching the native wildlife, golf, and visiting with friends in his shop. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Amanda L. (Cournoyer), his children; JoAnn (Arthur) Currier, Roxanne (Robert) Sheldon, Samuel (Lorraine) Peckham, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, his sister, Lillian M. Newth, brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, and many nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by 8 siblings. At Sam’s request, there are no formal services for his passing. A private celebration of his life will take place at the family’s convenience.
