Judy: I am deeply sorry to read of Sam’s passing. As I reflect on the short time that I worked along side of Sam at Russell Harrington in the mid to late 70’s I have wonderful memories of conversations with him. We use to sit and chat many times during the days either in his office or mine on the second floor of the main office building just down the hall from the finishing and packaging department. We talked about the rising prices of gasoline going up to 52 cents per gallon. Of course we also discussed work and the many personalities of the department managers to hopefully make things easier and better. I can remember when his dad gave the Porche to Sam and the first day he drove it to work. WOW, now that was something.
But Sam’s favorite topic was you. He most always would weave you into our conversations. You were his life and his being. I can recall him going home for lunch just about every day. I still wonder why (just kidding). I remember his dreams about moving to CT where life was going to be more relaxing and comfortable. I also remember going to a Christmas party at Mr. Richard Hardy’s home where Sam first introduced you to me and my wife Elizabeth (Betty). That had to be in 1974 or 75.
Memories are what we have left and hold deep in our hearts and soles. It is our responsibility to keep them forever safe.
I will always have many great and humorous thoughts of Sam. I consider his friendship a treasure in my life.
Again let me express my sincerest sympathies to you and your family in this time of loss.
Your invisible friend,
John Capuano

As Sam's dentist for many years, I feel priveleged that we became friends. We had many shared interests, including 8N Tractors, kayaking, and dining out with our wonderful wives.
Sam was the epitome of a true gentleman and he will always have a place in my heart.

Judy and your family, we were away when Sam passed away and heard about it when we returned. We are deeply saddened to have lost such a wonderful friend. The neighborhood will not be the same without him. We always enjoyed when Sam would stop by the house with the dog, ride in the field with his tractor, or show off his old Ford pick-up with a big smile on his face. Our prayers and thoughts are with your family and you. We're next door if there is anything you need.

Dear Mrs Schumacher, Sammy and Sarah,
I was very sorry to hear about Mr. Schumacher. It's been over 30 years since I stayed at the house or at the camp but they were always great times. I'm glad I had the chance to see Mr. Schumacher a few years back when I visited in Woodstock. Please accept my deepest sympathy and those of my parents. Shawn Hefner

I will cherish the boats rides and the times spent in Maine with Sam and Judy. The many calls we did with MBFD each week, and the corny jokes I always had to laugh at ;)! Dear Judy, Sammy, & Sarah-
Not sure quite where to start-I have so many happy memories about Sam. I don't remember a time when Sam wasn't stopping over, but it had increased when my own Mom was so sick. He was the one person to stop over every day to not only get her "status", but to check to see how the rest of us were and lend a helping hand. That is a true friend. We will miss Sam so very much.

We will miss you Uncle Sam. So many memories on the back porch for the July 4th Jamboree, and the age-old controversy of Hellmans vs. Miracle Whip, and the new joke for every visit! The clock you made for our wedding is one of my most cherished gifts. I can't believe you're gone. We love you and miss you.

We are the friends of Anne, Sam, Miles and Catie in Oregon. Our hearts go out to everyone who knew and loved Sam Sr.. We know from our relationship with his son and his family that he adored his Grandchildren. We hope that they will hold on to some memory of their Grandfather and what a wonderful man he was.

I worked with Sam here in Maine with HNF&R. He was a delight to work with, absolutely professional and always commanding of the respect that comes with being a knowledgeable veteran firefighter. He seemed that there wasn't anything that he didn't know or hadn't done. He was a wonderful man and we will miss him so much. He was fun and enthusiastic and always had a repotoire of jokes for any occasion.

Some things will never be the same: 4th of July parades, family reunion with Sam manning the hose. Some things will never change: the love of a "great big family" and many friends.
