Obituary of Arthur J. Alix
Arthur J. Alix, Sr., 85, of Brooklyn, formerly of Quaddick section of Thompson, died Thursday, June 4, 2009, at the Pierce Memorial Baptist Home in Brooklyn. He was the beloved husband of the late Doris (Montpelier) Alix, she died January 24, 1997. He was born June 9, 1923 in Killingly.
He had made his home in Thompson since 1948, spending his youth in East Killingly. He owned and operated the Dairy Bar and Dance Land in Quaddick from 1965 to 1970, he also was employed at Danco. Arthur was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Army, was honorably discharged in 1946. He enjoyed traveling and had wintered for a few years in Florida. He bought and sold antiques and also enjoyed flea markets. He was a communicant of the former Sacred Heart Church.
He leaves his sons: Arthur J. Alix, Jr. and his wife Janice of East Amherst, NY; Ed Phegen; two grandchildren; Lisa and Mathew; several great grandchildren and several step-grand and great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers: James and Francis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, June 8, 2009, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Church, 12 Main Street, North Grosvenordale, CT. Calling Hours will be Sunday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, CT. Burial in Munyan Cemetery, East Putnam.
