Obituary of Gabriel P. Barrette

Gabriel P. Barrette, 86 of Harry Street, Danielson, died Monday September 21, 2009 at Regency Heights, Danielson. He was the husband of Denise L. (Lombard) Barrette February 23, 1946, she died December 2, 1998. He was born May 1, 1923, in Canada, son of the late Pierre and Donalda (Bergeron) Barrette. He came to the US in October of 1926 at the age of three. He was a graduate of ST James School in 1938 and Killingly High School in 1942, where played soccer, basketball and baseball. He later played basketball for the VFW, ST Joseph's Athletic Club and Danielson Elks and also played baseball for the Danielson Towners. He was inducted into the Army February 14, 1943, a Veteran of World War II, serving with the US Army, in the 9th Evac Hospital and the Roosevelt Hospital, NY Unit. He served in Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany and was honorably discharged in Paris France, May 7, 1946. He worked for thirty years for the United States Post Office in Danielson, retiring May 31, 1995. He also was employed for ten years at Arrow-Hart and Powdrell and Alexander. He was an avid Red Sox Fan and UCONN sports fan. He was a member of the VFW, the Holy Name Society, the Quinebaug Senior Citizens, Killingly Historical Society, the French Alliance, and a communicant of ST James Church. He leaves two daughters: Ann B. Causey of Brooklyn; Mary G. Barrette of Danielson, two grandsons: Ryan Causey; Philip Causey, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Germaine, Romeo, Marguerite, Earnest, Rose, and Julian. Calling hours will be Friday, September 25, 2009 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds Street, Danielson, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St James Church, 12 Franklin Street, Danielson.
