Obituary of Alfia Minio
Alfia Minio, 94, of Danielson, CT died Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at the Matulaitis Nursing Home in Putnam. Beloved wife of the late Eugenio Minio, they were married March 5, 1939, he died in 1994. She was born February 16, 1915 in Cattania, Italy, daughter of the late Sebastiano and Guiseppina (Denaro) Castorina.
She came to the United States thru Ellis Island at the age of five, with her mother and father, settling in Brooklyn, New York. She attended Most Holy Trinity School and PS 162 in Brooklyn, NY. In 1941 the family moved to Danielson. After her children were in school she worked at Sterling Manufacturing in Plainfield. She was a communicant of St. James Church in Danielson, a member of the Daughters of Isabella and Quinebaug Valley Senior Citizens.
She leaves her son, Anthony Minio and his wife Eileen of Brooklyn, CT, her daughter, Angela Putnam and her husband Stanley of Brooklyn, CT with whom she made her home for many years, grandchildren: Paula Minio Wiencek and her husband David of Norwich, Jason Minio and his wife Jana of Marlboro, MA, Joanne Putnam of Dayville, Rick Putnam and his wife Christine of Dubuque, IA, Carolyn Lepine and her husband Todd of Plainfield, ten great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Josephine Ann Minio in 1973 and a brother Frank Castorina.
Funeral service will be 9:30 AM, Saturday, November 21, 2009 from the Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds Street, Danielson with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. James Church, 12 Franklin Street, Danielson. Calling hours will be Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Funeral home. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Danielson. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Leukemia and Lymphoma society, CT Chapter, 300 Research Pky, Suite 310, Meriden, CT 06450 or the Danielson Lions Club, PO Box 96, Danielson, CT 06239.
