Obituary of Arthur Manthorne

Arthur Manthorne, 76, of Woodstock, died Saturday, November 28, 2009. Husband of the late Theresa Newman-Manthorne, who he cared for dearly for many years. He was born April 25, 1933 in Thompson, son of the late Charles and Bernadette (Lavallee) Manthorne. He made his home in Woodstock for over 25 years, formerly of Roseland Park Road. He was a horticulturist and botanist. He had a great love for plants and the environment including birds and wild flowers. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the US Army. He leaves his brothers: Theodore Manthorne of Eastford, Robert Manthorne of Southbridge, sisters: Barbara McCausland of Southbridge, Shirley Routhier of Southbridge, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Ruth Menard. Services are private. Donations may be made in his memory to the CT Audubon Society, 189 Pomfret St., Pomfret Center, CT 06259. The Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, CT is charge of the arrangements.
