Obituary of Jeanette I. Laurion

Jeanette I. Laurion, 93, of Eden Street, Putnam, died Thursday morning, April 1, 2010, in Putnam, after a brief illness. She was born September 28, 1916 in Putnam, daughter of the late Alfred and Evelyn (Tetreault) Robitaille. She was the wife of the late Ovila Joseph Laurion from 1941 until his death in 1994. A 1934 graduate of Putnam High School and a communicant of St. Mary Church of the Visitation, she owned and operated Laurion Cleaners with her husband for over 35 years. During WW II, she was the Assistant Postmaster at the Putnam Post Office. She was a 28 year volunteer for the American Red Cross and for six years was Director of the Northeast CT Chapter, retiring in 1992. As a charter member of the Aspinock Historical Society, she served on the Archives Committee. Most recently she researched lost Putnam veterans to be added to the Putnam Memorial Plaque and the WW II Memorial in Washington, DC. She enjoyed 56 summers at Alexander's Lake in Dayville, and was a member of the Lake Yacht Club. An avid reader, skilled at using the computer for research and keeping in touch with her friends, she had a great love for her family, her community and her country. She leaves her daughters: Nanette Laurion of Sanibel, FL, Ann Laurion and her husband Michael Nalewajk of Danielson, a grandson Marc Fournier and his wife Ona of Yardley, PA, and a great granddaughter, Paulina. She was predeceased by her son-in-law Matthew Marciano, husband of Nanette Calling hours will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday, April 5 at the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11:45 AM from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 PM at St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence Street, Putnam. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Putnam. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Day Kimball Hospital Development Fund, PO Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260.
