Obituary of Rita I. Holbrook
Rita I. Holbrook, 92, of Providence Pike, Putnam, died Monday, April 26, 2010, at the Westview Nursing Center in Dayville. She was the beloved wife of Charles H. Holbrook; they were married June 29, 1940. She was born February 3, 1918 in Putnam, daughter of the late William and Lodie (Jodoin) Tetreault.
She was employed for over 31 years at the American Optical Company in Southbridge, retiring in 1982. She also worked in food service for the Putnam School System for several years, and from 1944-1946 she worked as a secretary at the Prudential Insurance Company in Providence. She was a communicant of St. Mary Church of the Visitation; a 1936 graduate of the Putnam Catholic Academy. She has made her home in Putnam most of her life, a member of the Daughters of Isabella and was a past local and State Regent, and a member of the Catholic Council.
She leaves her husband of 70 years Charles; a son Richard Holbrook and his wife Theresa of Putnam, a grandson Kevin Holbrook of Putnam and several cousins.
The funeral will be Friday at 9:30 AM from the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence Street, Putnam. Calling Hours Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Funeral Home. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Putnam. In lieu of flowers donations made be made in her memory to St. Mary Church of the Visitation.
