Obituary of Leonard M. Maynard
Leonard M. "Lenny" Maynard, 53, of Dawn Drive, Brooklyn, CT died unexpectedly Tuesday, August 3, 2010. He was the son of Oie Maynard-Murd and the late Leo Maynard, Jr., he died in 1992. He was born July 5, 1957 in Putnam, CT. He spent his youth in the Moosup area, a graduate of Plainfield High School and received his Associates Degree in Advertising from the Mohegan Community College. Lenny worked for several years in advertising for the Norwich Bulletin and Journal Transcript. In 1989 he took a position as a car salesman with Markley Motors in Brooklyn and became known as " Lenny the Car Guy", and also worked at other auto dealerships in the area. Lenny was an accomplished, gifted and talented musician; he played his keyboard entertaining many in area pubs and restaurants. He played many instruments including the accordion and concertina which came to him naturally. Lenny played with the Heavy Chicago Band, the Midas Touch Orchestra and the Dick Pillar Polka Band in New York, Pennsylvania and New England. In his youth he recorded a Polka album. Lenny had a great personality and was a very likable person. He leaves his beloved mother Oie Maynard-Murd of Matulaitis Nursing Home in Putnam, his children: Christopher M. Maynard and Catherine L. Maynard both of Plainfield; his uncles: Robert Maynard of Brooklyn; Julius Vapper of Canterbury; his aunts Maie Valma of Long Island, NY; Iola Kent of Rainsville, AL; several cousins. Funeral service will be Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 11:00 AM at The Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds Street, Danielson. Calling Hours Saturday from 10:00 am until time of service. Burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Wauregan. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Pet Pals NE, Inc., PO Box 64, Plainfield, CT 06374 or Friends of Assisi Food Pantry, 77 Water Street, Danielson, CT.
