R.I.P. Joan. You have been in my thoughts and prayers since you left Westview a few weeks ago. I'm sure you're sitting along side your mom in the gardens of Heaven. My sincere condolences goes out to your family during this time. It was a pleasure getting to know you all.
Alma Brey also wanted to express her condolences to you all.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Cherish the memories as they will grow more precious with each passing day. I have wonderful memories of Joanie in our 4-H club as kids and then the many years of working and worshipping together at church. She certainly was a wonderful role model. I will surely miss her.

Joanie. Joanie has been my role model since I can remember. She made me think about my future; she made me realize that I could be more than what was expected of me. I could become a professional, independent woman. This began in the mid-1960s when Charlotte McCullough, PHS Dean of Women, told me the most I could ever hope to be was a hairdresser. Now, there's nothing wrong with being a hairdresser, but it seemed kinda boring to me. So 20 years later, when I held an executive position in New York City, I had the inspiration of Joanie to thank. I remember once, when she was visiting Maude at Westview, we talked of how each of us learned computers on the "ground floor" and put that knowledge to use: thirty years later, Joanie was still my role model. I guess she always will be. The thing I'm most happy about is that I told her that. And true to her nature, Joanie brushed it aside. Always humble. But always my role model. I will be looking for you, Joanie, around every unexpected corner, for the rest of my life, thanking you. Thank you, Joan.
