Obituary of Linda H. Spillers
BROOKLYN, CT - Linda (Hurst) Spillers died Saturday, March 12, 2011 of complications from surgery. She was born in Salem, West Virginia, to Florence Petrilas and Wayne Hurst. She graduated from Weirton High School, Weirton, WV, and from West Liberty State College, Wheeling, WV. She married Charles L. Spillers, who died in 2004.
The family moved to Branford, Connecticut, where she taught school, and later worked as a part-time librarian after moving to North Stonington, CT. She loved visiting NYC to attend Broadway plays and the US Open Tennis Championships. She enjoyed gardening and tennis, and found joy in her relationships with family and friends, especially spending time with her three grandchildren. She was a strong and courageous woman, under a soft and kind exterior.
She is survived by her son Edward and his wife Christine, and their two children Madison and Thomas of Hopedale, Massachusetts; her daughter Winifred Fox and her husband Michael, of Pomfret, Connecticut, and their son Daniel of N. Quincy, Massachusetts; three sisters, Patricia Ficca of Bloomington, Illinois, Helen Chapman of Fall Branch, Tennessee, and Constance Dyer of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on March 26, 2011 at the Pierce Memorial Baptist Home, 44 Canterbury Road, Brooklyn, CT 06234. Donations may be made in Linda's memory to the Wheeler Library, 101 Main Street, North Stonington, CT 06359 or to The Pierce Memorial Baptist Home.
