Obituary of Cyrus I. Harvey, Jr.

Cyrus I. Harvey, Jr., 85, of Woodstock, CT, died April 14, 2011. He was the beloved husband of Rebecca (Miller) Harvey. He was born October 14, 1925 in Cambridge, MA, son of the late Cyrus and Mae (Spear) Harvey. Cyrus was a 1947 graduate of Harvard, served with the US Air Force as a navigator in WW II. He was the founder of Janus Films in 1956 and part owner of the Brattle Theater in Cambridge, MA. In 1972 he founded Crabtree and Evelyn in Woodstock, CT. Mr. Harvey was a man of great enthusiasm, Cyrus was an opera lover, a gardener and had a deep love for Welsh Corgis. He leaves his wife, Rebecca, daughter, Natasha Swann and her husband Christopher and their children, Alexander, Andrew and William of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Tanya Harvey and her husband James Babson of Lowell, OR; daughter, Viviane Ockenga and her children Zoe and Nicholas of Ipswich, MA; his sister, Marjorie Harvey of Brookline, MA. A Celebration of Cyrus' life will be Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the First Congregational Church of Woodstock, 543 Route 169, Woodstock, CT. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Wyndham Land Trust, PO Box 302, Pomfret Center, CT 06259 or Pomfret Audubon Center, PO Box 11, Pomfret Center, CT 06259.
