Obituary of Jack S. Carlson

Jack S. Carlson, 85, of Pomfret, CT, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at home. He was the husband of Aileen (Ask) Carlson, they were married in 1954, and she died November 17, 2010. He was born January 20, 1928 in Putnam, son of the late George and Amborg (Sordal) Carlson. He made his home in Woodstock for many years, moving to Pomfret in 1988. Jack was a US Army veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1950 - 1952 in the 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division, Company B. He was a member of the VFW in Danielson, Post 2650. Jack started out as a farmer inWoodstockand then became a carpenter, building several homes in the area. He also ran Pomfret Variety Store for several years. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, and their big trip was to drive to Alaska via Canada and the Alaskan Highway. He enjoyed auto racing, his passion was the Indianapolis 500, which he made 43 trips to with his wife. He was a caring and giving husband and father. He leaves a daughter and three nephews. Funeral Service will be Monday June 17, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Smith and Walker Funeral Home,148 Grove Street, Putnam,CT, with a Calling hour from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Elmvale Cemetery, Woodstock with military honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Danielson VFW Post 2650, 29 Mechanic Street, Danielson, CT 06239.
