Obituary of William F. Nelson
East Killingly - William F. Nelson, 85, of Slater Hill Road, East Killingly died Sunday, June 26, 2011 at Regency Heights in Danielson. He was born February 7, 1926 in Putnam, CT, son of the late Harold and Mary (Maher) Nelson of Pomfret, CT.
He graduated from Putnam High School, then attended Willimantic Teacher's College (Eastern CT State). Bill played Baseball for the Brooklyn Doger's camp. Bill served with the U.S. Navy from 1944 - 1946. He was a member of VFW Post 4908 East Killingly. Bill worked as clerk of works for Day Kimball Hospital, Killingly High School, Annhurst College, Hartford Hospital, JC Penny Co. and Lawrence Memorial. Bill enjoyed fireworks, fishing and traveling.
Bill Married Ramona Sears in 1949. He leaves behind his loving companion Marie Henriques, children; Kathie Hess of Pomfret, CT, Bill Nelson, Jr. of Dana Point, CA., Lori Giambattista of Brooklyn, CT, grandchildren; Hedi Corey, Becky Billington, Gretchen Hess, Jessie Hess, Allison Giambattista and Tyler Nelson, great grandchildren; Gavin and Meghan Corey, brothers; Paul Nelson and Jim Nelson, a sister, Ann Navarro and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by Gary Nelson and Chrissie (Nelson) Baker. The family would like to thank all the staff at Regency Heights for all of their care and support during his brief illness, special thanks to Nancy and Laurie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Most Holy Trinity Church, 568 Pomfret Street, Pomfret, CT, burial with Full Military Honors to follow in South Cemetery, Pomfret, CT. Calling Hours will be Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, CT. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Chrissie Nelson Baker and Carl Sears Memorial Fund c/o Citizens National Bank 182 Main Street, Putnam, CT 06260.
