Obituary of Lillian Elizabeth Murphy

Lillian Elizabeth Murphy, age 104 of Putnam, and Thompson, CT, came to rest at Pierce Memorial Baptist Home in Brooklyn, CT on October 15, 2011. She was born Lillian E. Beaudreault in Putnam, November 2, 1906 date, daughter of Zoe (Dumas) and Norbert Beaudreault. She was the wife of John T. Murphy of Pomfret, CT whom she married in 1936. He predeceased her in 1967. Having lived in Putnam for almost 80 years, she moved with family to Thompson where she made many new friends and continued to contribute to the joys of family life. As a devoted mother and grandmother, she was often found providing nurturance and warmth to those in her presence. She enjoyed travel, reading, cooking favorite recipes, and sharing stories with friends. She had a talent for piano playing and loved listening to music. She guided many paths with her natural ability as a good listener. She was a communicant of St Mary Church of the visitation, where she was a life member of the League of Catholic Women. She is survived by her daughter, Elaine, and son-in-law, Jean O. Chicoine, of Sun City Center, FL., grandchildren: Stephanie and husband Erik Johnson of South Windsor CT., Jason and wife Denise Chicoine of Pomfret, CT., Dana and wife Tracy of Andover MA., Susan Satterly of Southern Pines, North Carolina, Sandra and husband George Nelson of Vaas, N.C., and Dean and wife Wendy Stocks of Putnam, CT. She also leaves seven great grand-children. She was predeceased by her daughter, Ruth E. Stocks, and son-in-law, Edward A. Stocks, in 2000, and a great grand-daughter, Kimberly Satterly. Calling hour will be Tuesday, October 18, 2011 from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, CT, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in ST Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence Street, Putnam, CT. Burial in ST Mary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pierce Memorial Baptist Home, Brooklyn, CT. Everyone who came in contact with Lillian gave her generous amounts of compassion and quality care. This truly contributed to her comfort and peaceful longevity.
