MaryLou (Eke) Carlson
February 27, 1933 - November 10, 2011
MaryLou of Woodstock passed at the age of 78 surrounded by her family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved wife of the late George B. Carlson, Jr., they were married in October 1954 for 39 years. Daughter of the late Alfred and Alice (Erickson) Eke. She attended Elmvale School and Woodstock Academy. MaryLou worked at Electromotive in Willimantic until the birth of her son, Martin. She was a devoted housewife until the mid-70's where she went back to work at Matulaitis Nursing Home, for 12 years. During that time she was also co-owner of White Horse Gardens until her husband's death in 1994. She was a novice flower designer, enjoyed planting her flower beds and in her later years she was a Nascar fan. Her favorite drivers were Jimmie Johnson and Tony Stewart. She also enjoyed riding horses. She leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law Martin H. and Kathleen A. (Cote) Carlson of Woodstock, a brother-in-law Jack S. Carlson of Pomfret, a sister Janice L. Blackburn of Grants Pass, OR, nephews Ted Sprague of Bloomfield, Barry Sprague and family of Bethlehem and Mark Blackburn of Western, CT, a niece Rebecca Carlson of Naperville, IL. She was predeceased by her father Alfred in 1963, her mother Alice in 1977 and her husband George in 1994. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to the Woodstock Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Arrangements by Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street Putnam, CT.
