Obituary of Phyllis Rogers

Phyllis Rogers, 78, of Hawkins Road, Putnam, died Friday, December 16, 2011 at the Matulaitis Nursing Home in Putnam. Beloved wife of William B. Rogers, they were married July 31, 1954, he died December 29, 2009. Born August 13, 1933 in Putnam, CT, daughter of the late Gerald and Alida (Jette) Labossiere.

She was a graduate of the PCA and St. Francis Nursing School. She was a Registered Nurse, working at Matulaitis Nursing Home in Putnam for over 25 years, and following her retirement, she volunteered at Matulaitis. Phyllis was a lifelong resident of Putnam, an active member of the Putnam Community for several years, a communicant of St. Mary Church of the Visitation and a former CYO teacher. Phyllis was a literacy volunteer, a member of the Putnam Library Board and the Aspinock Historical Society. Phyllis and her husband Bill wintered in Florida for several years after retirement. She had a great passion for her life’s work as an RN at Matulaitis, her utmost concerns were for her patients health and well-being. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and sister.

She leaves two sons: William Rogers, III of Ellington, John Rogers and his wife Susan of Putnam; two daughters: Kathleen Royce and her husband Brian of Newington; Maureen Dexter and her husband Mark of Ellington; grandchildren: William; Crystal; Desirae; Ramon; Alexis; Emily; Patrick; Madison; Marek; great grandchildren: William and Adonis; a brother Gerard Labossiere of Tacoma, Washington, a sister Claire Main of Putnam, several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 9:00 from the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in ST Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence Street, Putnam. Calling hours Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Funeral Home. Burial in ST Mary Cemetery.
