Obituary of Dennis Stevens Barlow

Dennis Stevens Barlow, 52, of Eastford died at his home on January 20, 2012 surrounded by family. He leaves Joan (Lavigne) Barlow, his loving wife of 29 years, and their three children- son Daniel, daughter Michelle, and son Joseph. Dennis, born April 18, 1959, is one of six sons born to Herman and Jean Barlow of Eastford, he is survived by his mother Jean, his brothers David of Coopersburg, PA, Glenn of Eastford, Bruce of Marshall, MI, Herman Jr. of Eastford, and James of Eastford. Dennis graduated from Woodstock Academy in 1977 and enrolled at UConn, graduating in 1981. He then attended Johns Hopkins Medical School and graduated with an MD degree in 1985. He completed his medical training at Macha Hospital in Zambia, Africa. Following the completion of his residency at the University of Vermont, he worked at Mtshabezi Mission Hospital in Zimbabwe for 5 years. He returned to Connecticut with his young family in 1994 and worked as an Emergency Department physician at Rockville and Manchester Hospitals for the rest of his career. Dennis was a lifelong member of Eastford Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, trustee, executive board member, and missions board treasurer. He was also an active member of the Eastford Elementary School Board, and served on the board of CareNet in Danielson. Dennis' dedication, love, and commitment to his family, patients, church, and community was evident to all. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Calling hours will be held Sunday, today from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and Monday, January 23, 2012 from 4:00 to 5:30 pm, followed by a memorial service Monday at 6 pm at the Eastford Baptist Church, 133 Union Rd, Eastford, CT. Throughout his life Dennis was actively involved in education and missions work.
