Obituary of Everett E. Mayhew
Everett E. Mayhew, 92 of Bibeault Street, Putnam, CT, died Wednesday February 1, 2012 at his home. He was the husband of Lillian Irene (Johansen) Mayhew, They were married January 31, 1942 in the Brandy Hill Baptist Church, Thompson, Irene died April 2, 2001. He was born February 1, 1920, in Thompson, son of the late William M. and Clarabelle (Hall) Mayhew.
He worked over 33 years as a cable splicer for Southern New England Telephone. He was a veteran of WWII, serving six years with the US Navy, honorably discharged September 11, 1945. He had made his home in Putnam all of his life, an active member of the Putnam Congregational Church, serving as Deacon, Trustee and moderator. He enjoyed playing Dart Ball with the area Dart Ball League and was an avid golfer, a longtime member of Quinnatisset Country Club, and the Putnam VFW 1523, CT Union of Telephone Workers and Quinebaug Valley Seniors Citizens of Brooklyn.
He leaves two daughters: Judith Nielsen of Yarmouth, Maine; Marietta Caye of Putnam, grandchildren Heidi Nielsen, Eric Nielsen, Leif Nielsen and Sarah Migneault. Predeceased by his siblings: Raymond Mayhew, Dorothy Bond, Russell Mayhew, Esther Halainen.
A Memorial Service will be Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 1:00 PM in the Putnam Congregational Church, 175 Main Street, Putnam, CT. Burial in Grove Street Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to The Putnam Congregational Church, PO Box 463, Putnam, CT 06260 or Hospice of NE CT, PO Box 632, Putnam, CT.
