Obituary of Raymond E. LaPointe
Raymond E. LaPointe, age 76, loving father, grandfather and devoted husband, died at UMASS Memorial Medical Center on Thursday, June 21, 2012 after a brief illness.
Ray was born May 15, 1936 in Putnam, CT to Edward and Rose LaPointe. On June 14, 1958 he married his beautiful wife of 54 years, Gloria (Perry) LaPointe.
He lived and raised his family in Danielson, CT and worked for the State of Connecticut as a Construction Specialist until retiring in the early 1990's.
Ray was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, The Danielson Lodge of Elks, and was a past President of the Danielson Little League. Ray was also active in the early development of the Danielson Springtime Festival and various other community groups.
Ray will especially be remembered for his devotion to helping others, his beautiful singing voice, his love of golf, quick wit and being the pillar of support for his family.
Survivors include his wife Gloria LaPointe of Danielson, son Guy LaPointe of Plainfield, daughter Colleen Strandson of Brooklyn, granddaughters, Bianca LaPointe, Nicole Strandson and Danielle Strandson, daughter-in-law Monika LaPointe, son-in-law Dennis Strandson, brothers Edward LaPointe, Jr. of Putnam and Richard LaPointe of Danielson, sister Betty Ann Joyal and various other nieces and nephews.
Calling Hours will be Thursday, June 28, 2012 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds Street, Danielson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, June 29, 2012 at 10:00 AM at St. James Church, 12 Franklin Street, Danielson followed by burial in Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ray's name to Day Kimball Homemakers, 320 Pomfret Street, Putnam, CT 06260. To share a memory with his family, "Light a Candle" at www.gagnonandcostellofh.com
