Obituary of Marguerite Parks Seaton
Dayville, CT – Marguerite Parks Seaton passed away on January 17, 2015. Mrs. Seaton was born on November 17, 1915 in Maysville, Georgia to Mamie Gillespie Parks and Ralph Parks.
She grew up in Homer, Georgia, attending local schools. Prior to World War II, she worked as a secretary in Columbia, South Carolina. In February, 1944 she enlisted in the Marine Corps, and served at Miramar Naval Air Station in California. After being honorably discharged in 1946, she attended Columbia University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in English literature. She married Thomas J. Seaton in December, 1952. In 1954 she accompanied her husband to England, where he served with the United States Department of Defense School system until 1985. In 1990 they returned to the United States, living in Thompson, CT and later in Woodstock, CT.
Mrs. Seaton was a superb cook, a gifted piano player, and a lover of grand opera. She was an avid reader, and had a keen interest in English literature and history. She also wrote humorous and entertaining letters, which were enjoyed by her whole family, and many of her friends.
Mrs. Seaton is survived by her daughter Jean Seaton Keleher of Kensington, MD, and her sons, Thomas J. Seaton, III of Waldorf, MD, and Edward A. Seaton of Pomfret Center, CT, as well as her five grandchildren, Elena and Jeffrey Seaton, and Christopher, Alexander, and Claire Keleher. She is also survived by her sister, Lynn Lewallen of Homer, GA. Her husband, Thomas Seaton, passed away in January, 2014. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
