Obituary of Paul Gordon Arvidson

Paul Gordon Arvidson, 87 of Woodstock, CT went home to be with the Lord at Westview Health Care Center while surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 25, 2013. Paul was born on August 9, 1925 in Putnam, to Axel and Agnes (Swanson) Arvidson. Paul grew up on the family farm with his brother Sven and sister Beatrice. Paul attended Woodstock Academy and later graduated from Ellis Technical School. In addition to running the family farm, Paul spent many years on the Woodstock Volunteer Fire Department and forty years as town constable. He was also an active member of the Woodstock Evangelical Covenant Church. Paul is survived by his beloved wife of fifty five years Joan (Swenson) Arvidson, his daughter Carol Arvidson of Putnam, daughter and son-in-law Martha and Robert Beckwith of Woodstock, daughter and son-in-law Beth and Frank Thayer of Woodstock, and daughter and son-in-law Linda and Gregory Scarpa of Preston. He was blessed with eight grandchildren, William and wife Monica Beckwith, Erika and husband Steven Bourque, Cynthia Beckwith, Julia Thayer, Ashley Merlo, Katie Thayer, Samuel Beckwith, and Nicolette Scarpa. Paul was also blessed with one great-granddaughter, Madelyn Bourque. Paul is predeceased by his brother Sven and sister Beatrice. The Funeral Service will be Tuesday July 30, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 24 Child Hill Road, Woodstock, CT. Calling Hours are Monday July 29, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, CT. Burial in Elmvale Cemetery, Woodstock.
