Obituary of Barbara (Buell) Sandness
Barbara (Buell) Sandness, 79, of Eastford, CT, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 6, 2014, surrounded by her family at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam, CT. Barbara was the beloved wife of the late Orrin A. Sandness, whom she married on February 19, 1955. Barbara was born December 13, 1934 in Putnam, CT, daughter of the late Herbert and Marjorie (Brown) Buell.
Barbara was a lifelong member of the Eastford Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang as a soloist. She was a member of the Gideons' Auxiliary for over 45 years. Barbara enjoyed gardening, sewing, and knitting. Barbara and her husband enjoyed wintering in Florida for over 25 years. Barbara and Orrin were very active in the family farm, Buell's Orchard, which was established by her grandfather in 1889, and is being passed along to her grandchildren.
She leaves her children: Carol Fooks; Jeffrey Sandness and his wife Patty; Jonathan Sandness and his wife Sharlene, all of Eastford, her grandchildren: Matthew Sandness; Gregory Sandness; Alison Sandness; Mark Sandness; Ethan Sandness; Danielle Benoit; and Justin Benoit, a brother-in-law: Edward L. Adams of Eastford, several nieces and nephews, and many lifelong friends. She was predeceased by her sisters: Marilyn Adams and Phyllis Buell.
A memorial service will be held at the Eastford Baptist Church, 133 Union Road, Eastford, CT, on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at 3:00 PM, which will be followed by refreshments and an opportunity to greet the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara's memory to the Gideon Northeast Camp, 86 Crystal Pond Road, Eastford, CT 06242 or "Care in a Heartbeat," PO Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260 for the DKH-ED expansion.
