Ken, nothing but memories of the fun shared in Springfield, with your Dad,my brother Walt Jr and a few friends. Humor and music and love of hunting fishing and family. Did I ever tell you that your Dad was my hero? He was the man I aspired to become. Though I think I would certainly have to take a back seat to you. I think that perhaps you took that spot.
It's been quite a few years since I have seen you or Tory, heck it's been twenty since I said goodby to Brother Walt. But I have a feeling we will all be together again in a short while. Rest in peace Ken, til we meet again, your cousin, Vinal

My dear Uncle Ken, he is and always will be in my heart. He could make me laugh all the time, the one liners, the harmonica was like angels in the sky. I liked visiting and getting ice cream at the Tastee freeze~I made a cone so big it wouldn't fit through the hole for the customer~Ken: Well now that's a cone,All his dirty little songs he sang & Aunt Jean was such a sweet heart about what he said with her one liners too. Love them Both to the Moon and back, Sending lots of prayers to Aunt Jean, Wendy, Deb, Jeff I love you all Dottie

I am thinking of you all this day. May it go well and your hearts be filled with gladness, that Uncle Ken is rejoicing with his family in heaven. I too remember Tastee Freeze and looking forward to some ice cream. I also remember Uncle Ken checking to see if the coins he was given were silver. He was a character that is for sure. Aunt Jeanne and Debbie, Wendy and Jeff, I am especially thinking of you and hoping you will be given a light heart knowing you did what you could till the end. God Bless You!

I still can see Uncle Ken and his brothers Harry, Russell, Roderick asking Gladys for pickles, homemade donuts, molasses cookies and whatever they could get there hands on to eat and grab to take with them to Springfield to go hunting. Several times they took mom, me and Peter with them to cook and clean up after them. It was great fun. They would put me in a blanket and toss me in the air and then catch me, all the time I was screaming let me down. I always will remember the jokes, songs and harmonica playing with Gramp Merrill and Uncle Ken. So many memories of times spent in the breakfast nook in Bucksport, Maine - eating - telling jokes and singing. Thought and prayers go to Aunt Jeanne, Debbie, Wendy and Jeff - cherish all the memories you have for years to come. He was a wonderful loving and giving person.

People like Ken make life worth living. He made such a huge impact in my heart and mind, I would always think about him. He is my second father, and was very close to Harry. My father was the only person who was more in my mind, especially as I grew older. I can't wait to go to Heaven and be with my dad, all the Merrills, who they married, their children, and others. Ken, thank you for what you have done for me. Especially your wonderful sense of humor and ability to be truthful and open.

Tastee freeze trips. Rides on the tractor through the woods. Walking in the garden and picking vegetables. Model A rides. Stories and jokes aplenty. Harmonica serenades. His quiet strength when needed. His silliness and giggles when needed. Sitting at the kitchen table eating marshmallows together on my last visit. I'll miss you dear Uncle.

Many years ago when I was growing up, we would go to Tastee Freeze every evening. We had two french poodles and we always got two vanilla ice cream cups "without the spoon" I got to know "Uncle Ken" quite well. As a married adult, we would go their every Friday one night when I went to pay for our ice cream I couldn't find my money, (we had just come from the bank) Ken said, that's OK you can charge it till next week. After continued search I did find the money, but felt that I was probably one of the luckiest people in Town as I had a Charge Account at Tastee Freeze. He was a very special man and I was one of his last customers I still have several of the Tastee Freeze dolls that I collected through the years. It was hard to see him leave, but was also happy for him too. My prayers are with his family.

There are only a handful of people who come into your world, and touch your life in an exceptional way. For me that was Uncle Ken. But now that he has gone on to his eternal rest, I am selfishly thinking of myself & what I have lost. Who is going to tell me stories about the Merrill family? Who is going to look at all the old photos & be able to name all the people in them. Who will be able to recite limericks and tell me jokes the way he could? Who will be the connection to the past?
At his birthday party/reunion & later that day at the motel you could see his face light up when he played his harmonica, told jokes, and answered all our questions for hours. I think he derived as much pleasure spending time with us as we did with him.
I will miss him greatly, but I also mourn the passing of an era.
May GOD bless him and keep him by HIS side.

Uncle Ken was probably the most enjoyable gentleman ever to visit & entertain our town hall. His harmonica, his songs, his war stories, his humorous riddle stories, all portrayed the truly wonderful character he was, a true gem from yesteryear; I picture him playing the harmonica & singing in Heaven!

I knew and worked with Uncle Ken many times. As a realtor and as an Appraiser. Always enjoyed his company. A rare breed of fair and honest. Great stories and big heart. He left his mark and will be remembered. It was an honor to have known him.
