Obituary of Arthur A. Salony

Arthur A. Salony, 86, of Fairgrounds Road, Brooklyn, CT, died Wednesday, October 9, 2014 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, Worcester, MA. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Skaradowski) Salony, they were married August 8, 1953. He was born August 9, 1928 in Laurelton, New York, son of Alexander and Alma (Laakosonen) Salony. Arthur was a Nuclear Quality Engineer, working for General Dynamics in Groton for 27 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Army. He was a life member of the Danielson Elks Lodge, a member of the Danielson American Legion and the AM Vets. Arthur was a Past Commander and an active member of the Danielson VFW Post #2650, and was Captain of the Post Color Guard for many years. He served on the Killingly - Brooklyn Veterans Council and was a past Chairman of the council. He received many awards for his work and involvement with Veteran's Affairs including the George French Award, participating in the community on Memorial Day, Flag Day and Veteran's Day in Killingly and Brooklyn. Arthur was a past president of the American Screw Credit Union. In the 1950's he was a member of the CT Auxiliary State Police. Arthur will be remembered as strong willed (SISU), he always danced the last dance and would always go out of his way to help someone. He leaves in addition to his wife of 61 years, Barbara, his children: Karen Latterell and her husband Earl of Brooklyn; Gail Mancini and her husband Steve of Lebanon; Peter John Salony and his friend Jill of Thompson; Kathleen McClure and her husband Don of Plainfield; daughter-in-law, Eileen Salony of Danielson, two sisters, June Lamontagne of NH, Muriel Sarault of CA, a special niece Jean Cushman of FL, 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, his sister-in-law Lynn Rulli and her husband Paul of Woodstock, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Aaro Joseph Salony in 2012, and his siblings, Julia, Evelyn, Lillian, Eileen, Gloria and Joan. Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Monday, October 13, 2014 at the Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds Street, Danielson. Calling hours Sunday, October 12, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Funeral Home. Burial with Military Honors in Holy Cross Cemetery, Danielson.
