A Walk on the Beach
The morning-fresh waves wash up on the beach,
washing away my footprints and tickling my feet.
A salty scent gets caught in the breeze swirling through the warm, air,
blow across the beach to graze the shells of beauty with no compare.
Peaceful , and quite, it's how it should be.
Peace is good for for both you and for me.
As you sit down on the pale, white sand,
The rising sun's rays reach you like the fingers of a hand.
They warm you and bring renewed energy,
on your walk on the beach, by the cold, salty sea.
Thank you Grandad for the wonderful childhood memory of the early morning walks in Brewster to the shore- they will always be treasured.

When I first met Leland, I was in high school dating Jessica. My first impression was that I was going to be a hard sell to him. We both saw eye to eye on politics, history and religion. I had never done that before with any of my ex-girlfriends relatives. As I got to know Leland, I learned to respect his knowledge and education. Leland always respected me and I him. He pulled no punches, told it like it was and always had some tidbit of knowledge to bestow upon me. I enjoyed talking to him about his days during WWII, his time spent in England and his view on the world. When Jess and I got back together in 1999, I was able to reconnect with Lee as well. I have a strong respect for who Leland was and what he accomplished in his life. I will miss him deeply and I hope one day we will see each other again to continue our long talks and to just "catch up". Godspeed.

I'll never forget all the vacations granddad used to take us on; the cape, Ohio, Florida, New York for the Olympics. Everything was always a mix between fun and education.
