Obituary of Vivian B. Grochmal
Vivian B. Grochmal, 93, of Brooklyn, CT passed away peacefully on August 8, 2012. Vivian was born on January 26, 1919 to the late Joseph and Elizabeth LaPointe in Fall River, MA, where she spent most of her childhood. She married James D. Riley in 1937 and after World War II migrated to Danielson, CT, where they owned and operated Liberty and Casino Bowling Lanes for 20 years.
She is survived by three Riley children, James F. Riley, Diane E. Shields, and Daniel Riley. Her husband James predeceased her in death in 1966. She was also predeceased by her parents, three brothers, Lionel, Armand and Roger and two sisters, Estelle Riley and Irene Kirkwood.
In 1967, Vivian married Stanley Grochmal and mothered four of his children, Maryann Szela, Dorothy Grochmal, Stanley Grochmal and Thomas Grochmal. She is predeceased by husband Stanley and his son Stanley.
The combined families produced eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren from the Riley famiy and three grandchildren from the Grochmal family. She was beloved by all family members, spouses and significant others. She will be sorely missed.
Vivian lived independently with pride until June 7, 2012. The family would like to thank Doctor Jane Doyle and the staff and nurses at Westview Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center for the care and comfort they gave her in her final days.
The Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, August 12, 2012 at the Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds Street, Danielson, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. James Church, 12 Franklin Street, Danielson, CT. Monday, August 13, 2012 at 10am. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
