Obituary of Edward W. Somers

Edward William Somers, Sr., 88, of Brooklyn, CT passed away October, 16, 2023 at Pierce Memorial Baptist Home in Brooklyn. He was born February 11, 1935 in Bridgeport, CT, son of the late Frank and Margaret (Ross) Somers, Sr. He was the youngest of four.

Edward was a ballroom dance instructor for Arthur Murray Dance Studio, where he met his wife when she won free dance lessons. Edward and Catherine were married for 66 years. He was a member of the National Guard and a true WWII History buff. Edward was an artist and a avid golfer. He loved his family and big band era music. He attended Quinebaug Valley Seventh Day Adventist Church.

He leaves his wife Catherine Somers of Brooklyn, CT; his daughter Karen Ashlaw (Edwin Ohop) of Putnam, CT; his son Edward W. Somers, Jr. of Attleborough, MA; his grandchildren Javin Hammond (Josh Scraba) of Woodstock, CT, Amanda Simoneau (Dennis Simoneau) of Brooklyn, CT, Brittany Laraia (Christopher Laraia) of Brooklyn, , Edward Somers, III (Rosangel Somers) of Cumberland, RI, Stacey Benn (Nicolas Benn) of Fort Myers, FL and Danielle Somers (Ernny Guzman) of North Attleborough, MA. He had 10 great grandchildren with two additional on the way. He was predeceased by all his siblings. 

A Calling Hour will be Friday, October 20, 2023 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds Street, Danielson, CT.
