Obituary of Paul McCoy III “MBA, PhD (ABD)”

Paul Griffith McCoy III, a loving husband, father, uncle, brother, Past Master at Putnam Lodge #46, Past Worthy Patron at Betty Putnam #106, academician, Eagle Scout, and dedicated martial arts instructor (7th Degree Black Belt), has completed his earthly journey and now stands in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born in 1957, the son of Paul Griffith McCoy and Edna J Riddle McCoy, brother to Cheryl and Robin McCoy (married to Ted Leonhardt). Paul graduated from Culver Academy in 1975 and Denison University in 1979 and was soon joined in holy matrimony to Anne McCoy, sharing a life devoted to faith and family for the past 44 years.
Throughout his life, Paul exemplified the values of perseverance and self-discipline, which he instilled in countless individuals through his passion for martial arts. Alongside his beloved wife and daughter, Barbara McCoy, their vision was simple yet profound: to change the world through the transformative power of their students. As martial arts instructors in Auburn, MA, Paul and his family shared the principles of Tang Soo Do and Kenpo Karate, helping students discover not only physical strength but also the importance of discipline, respect, and inner growth for over 30 years.
Paul's life was a testament to faith, both in God and in the potential of every individual. His commitment to teaching and mentoring transcended mere physical instruction, making a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to learn from him. Paul's legacy continues not only in the martial arts community but also in the countless lives he touched and transformed through his faith in Christ.
As we remember and celebrate the life of Paul G. McCoy III, let us also reflect on the enduring hope that he found in Jesus Christ. In his honor, may we carry forward his legacy of faith, strength, and service, spreading the transformative message of the Gospel to all we encounter. The family (Barker, Miller, Van Valkenburgh, Brooks, Leonhardt, McCoy, & Hodge) requests privacy at this time to mourn and hold a private burial ceremony. The service for celebrating the life, spirit, and love of the deceased will be announced at a later time.
