On Sunday, January 5, 2025, Eva Mae Oates passed peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones. Predeceased by her devoted husband of over 60 years, Charles L. Oates.
Eva’s journey began in Erwin, NC, before she moved to Connecticut with Charles and their young family, where they thrived for six decades. A devout Christian and a beacon of love, Eva led a full and beautiful life, sharing her warmth and kindness with all she encountered. Her unwavering compassion touched countless lives; she was a source of nourishment, offering food from her garden and soup from her pot, and all were fed from her love.
Eva Mae is survived by her seven cherished children: Edna, Ken, Lynwood, Sheila, Mattie, Jill, and Tony. Her legacy lives on through her 24 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren, and 19 great-great-grandchildren, who will carry her spirit forward. The love of her family stands as a powerful testament to her strength as a wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, creating patches stitched together in the quilt of a beautiful life.
Calling hours will be Saturday, January 11, 2024 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, CT. A Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
