Obituary of Mary Spielman

Mary Spielman was born in North Scituate, RI on October 13, 1918, a daughter of George and Mary Adams Bishop. When Mrs. Spielman was a child, her family moved from Rhode Island and settled in Putnam. She attended local schools and graduated from Putnam High School in 1936. She was the wife of the late John L. Spielman who died on February 8, 1983. They were married at the Putnam Baptist Church on October 11, 1937. After raising her children, Mrs. Spielman went to work for the Windham County Observer for more than eighteen years, retiring in 1980. Mrs. Spielman was a long time member of the Putnam Baptist Church and a director at the Putnam Baptist Homes at Little River Acres. She enjoyed traveling and flower gardening. She is survived by a son, John L. Spielman,Jr of Barefoot Bay, FL and a daughter, Barbara Jane Vose of Sebastian, FL., two grandsons, David Vose of Tolland, CT and Mark Vose of Key West, FL., two granddaughters, Joyce Abeln of Douglasville, GA and Bethe Spielman of Barefoot Bay, FL., three great granddaughters and one great grandson. Mrs. Spielman was predeceased by two brothers, Henry and Coomer Bishop and three sisters, Ida Winterbottom, Ruth McDonnell and Annie Chaffee. Friends and relatives are invited to a grave side memorial service on May 2, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Grove Street Cemetary, Putnam. Arrangements are by Smith & Walker. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to local VNA Hospices in Mrs. Spielman's memory.
