Obituary of H. Warren Day
H. Warren Day of Eastford went to be with his Lord and Savior May 2, 2009 at the age of 73. He was born at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam on October 2, 1935, son of Margaret (Warren) Day and the late J. Henry Day of Eastford.
Except for the first six years after his marriage he lived all of his life in Eastford. He was a 1953 graduate of Woodstock Academy and was the recipient of the Yale Honor Cup. After graduation he was employed by the Cargill Trust Company and later worked at the Citizens National Bank, Eastford Building Supply and retired from Tillinghast True Value Lumber and Building Center in 1998 due to ill health.
In addition to his mother he leaves his beloved wife of 51 years, Patricia (Stocks) Day whom he married on April 12, 1958 at St. Mary Church in Putnam, a son Denis A. Day and wife Marcia of Eastford, daughter Valerie (Day) Breton and her fiance Michael Gauthier of Woodstock, granddaughter SSgt. Michelle Breton USAF, grandson Joseph Breton of Woodstock, a sister Margaret (Peg) Pittman of Eastford and one nephew, Christopher Pittman of Eastford, He was predeceased by his two brothers Allen and Roger Day.
Over the years he served on many committees including treasurer of The Eastford branch of the Salvation Army, president and treasurer position for the Eastford Independent Fire Department, treasurer of the Eastford Grove Cemetery Association, Eastford 4-H Horse Club, Boy Scouts, Inland Wetland Committee, member and volunteer of the Ashford Senior Citizens Organization, and a past member of The Putnam Rotary Club. He loved to travel, read, play cards, make jig saw puzzles, spend time on his computer, do stained glass projects, play miniature golf, and spent many hours in his greenhouse raising flowers and plants for his wife's gardens.
A Celebration of Warren's life will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Eastford Congregational Church, 8 Church Road, Eastford, CT, where he was a life time member. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Warren's memory to the Day Kimball Hospital's Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Center, PO Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260 or The Eastford Independent Fire Department, PO Box 222, Eastford, CT 06242.
