Obituary of Bernard L. Poitras
Bernard Poitras, 85, of Upper Maple Street, Danielson, died Monday, August 31, 2009 at home. He was the beloved husband of Cecile (Hebert) Poitras, who died May 4, 2003. He was born May 3, 1924 in Putnam, son of the late Luc and Claire (Boulais) Poitras.
He was a communicant of ST James Church in Danielson, and was one of the original founders of ST James Bazaar. He was active in Boy Scouts as a leader. He was a veteran of WWII serving as a Sgt. with the Army Corp of Engineers. He worked at SNET as a telephone installer for 37 years until retirement.
He leaves his daughter: Lynn M. Lambert of Danielson, four sons: Thomas B. (Corinne) Poitras of Helena, MT, Mark (Fran) Poitras of Danielson, Dennis (Mary Ann) Poitras of Ashford, Glenn (Leslie) Poitras of Chepachet, RI, his siblings, Margaret Ducat of Danielson, Estelle LaPlante of Ellsworth, ME, Henrietta Monahan of Nevada, grandchildren Mark Poitras Jr.; Luke Poitras; Ben Poitras; Cordell Cudworth III; Adam Cudworth; Connie Czmyr, many nieces and nephews and his caregiver for the last five years, his special friend, Barbara McShane. He was predeceased by siblings, Claire Veillieux, Lorraine Sugalski, Armand Poitras, Camille Poitras.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:15 AM, Friday, September 4, 2009 at ST James Church, 12 Franklin Street, Danielson. Calling Hours are Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds Street, Danielson. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Danielson. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of NE CT, PO Box 632, Putnam, CT. Arrangements by Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds Street, Danielson.
