Obituary of Barbara E. Smith

Barbara E. Smith, 93, of Pomfret Center, died Wednesday, July 27, 2011. Wife of James Smith he died June 21, 1984. She was born October 10, 1917, in Norwich, CT, daughter of Robert and Elizabeth (Smith) Donahue. She graduated from Meriden Hospital School of Nursing in 1938. Barbara was a Veteran of WWII serving in the Philippines with the U.S. Army as a nurse. She worked for Backus Hospital in Norwich until she retired in 1983. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Ansel and her husband Jeffrey of Brewster, MA, Sharon Uguccioni of Woodstock, CT, Mary Kinney and her husband Paul of Providence RI, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A brother and a sister have gone before her Robert Donahue of CA and Ruth Clarke of TX. A Graveside Service will be Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 11:00 AM in Maplewood Cemetery, 184 Salem Turnpike, Norwich, CT 06360.
