My sympathies to all family and friends. Paul has been a friend as long as I can remember. My mother Alice and Paul drove bus together and remained friends always. I will never forget (because neither one of them would ever let me) when I was 5 yrs old and Paul was my bus driver. I guess I fell asleep on his bus and he never realized I was there until he parked the bus in his yard and did a quick walk through. When he called my mother she said if he took me home he had to keep me. I will miss his sense of humor.

Paul was a great guy. Worked with him many years when I was in the SP Radio Division. I could always relay on Paul to give me a "radio check" when I wanted to know how things were working. He will be missed.

My condolences to the Smutnick Family. My brother, sisters and I certainly have fond memories of our favorite bus driver! The first one that comes to mind is when there would be frost heaves in the road a short distance from our bus stop on the way home. The bus was pretty empty by then and he would let us move to the back seats and really feel the bump as he drove over it and we lifted off the seat. What a great father you have to remember. His passing has surely left a sadness on the hearts of many who had the great joy to have known him.

My deepest sympathy to the entire Smutnick family. Mr.Smutnick "my" bus driver as I called him as child, was a wonderful caring man and didn't put up with any nonsense on the bus when he was driving. I will always remember him telling me my "escort" (my dog Frisky) was waiting for me as he drove up to drop me off the bus from school. I had the privildge of seeing him again as an adult and he was still that wonderful caring man! I know he will be truly missed by all his family and friends and this "kid on the bus".

We will continue to keep Paul in our thoughts when we see a Yellow School Bus or cast a vote in the Community School..
As the bus driver for us kids and a vote checker for us as adults - to have Paul say,"hey, weren't you on my bus" always brought us a laugh - 'cause who wasn't on his bus in those days. Our thoughts are with the Smutnick family during this time.

I have such great memories of riding on Paul's bus. We always had such a great time but he knew when to draw the line and get us back under control. Not easy with a bunch of crazy Ayers kids running around. He was the best. My condolences to MaryLou, PJ, Bill and all their families.

Paul was one of the GOOD GUYS-He always had a smile and a good word and made the life of a road grunt at Troop D easier to bear - I do not believe that I ever heard him speak badly of anybody even when they needed it.
I am in Florida for the winter and so could not pay my respects to him & family. Suffice to say that this man will be fondly remembered as long as I live - he is a pleasant memory and there can not be enough of those.
I am sorry for family and for friends at the loss of this man!! Mike PEPE

Paul was a stand up guy who would always be there to lend a hand. I grew up in Pomfret for only a few years but those years were remembered fondly because of good people like Paul. I went to school with his son P.J.. Hi P.J.. My condolences for your loss. I know he will be missed.
